Abstract:
This study aims to investigating the effect of using science fiction in teaching science on developing scientific concepts of sixth grade students with different learning style. The present study attempted to answer the following questions: 1. What is the effect of using science fiction stories on scientific concepts of sixth grade students? 2. Does this effect differ by the method of learning and learning style and interaction between them? The study sample consisted of 60 students selected purposefully from the sixth basic grade at the Beita Basic School in the Southern Nablus Directorate of Education. The class consists of two sections، one of them was selected randomly to represent the experimental group (n. 30) students that learned by using science fiction whereas the other was selected to represent the control group (n. 30) students that learned by using the normal method. In order to achieve the study objectives، the researcher prepared the following study instruments: The Concept Development Test that consisted in its final version of 14 items of four multiple choices, The Modified Version of Kolb Learning Style Test that consists of 9 items of four multiple choices, and Interviews. To answer the study questions، the Analysis of Covariant (ANCOVA) model (4×2) was administered. The study reached the following findings: There is a significant difference between the mean of the scores of the experimental and control study groups obtained in the concept achievement test attributed to the method, and there is a significant difference between the mean of the scores of the experimental and control study groups obtained in the concept achievement test attributed to the interaction between the method and learning style. In light of these finding, the researcher recommended using science fiction in teaching science due to its role in developing science concepts, training science teachers in using this method, carrying out other studies related to science fiction in teaching science and applying it on various grade leve
