Abstract:
This study addressed the issue of the natural disasters literature in the first Mamluk era (784 – 648 Hijri). Natural disasters have always been a cause of concern and confusion for those who have witnessed them over the course of the human history. In the first Mamluk era, a variety of natural disasters have occurred including: Snow, torrents, lightning and earthquakes, volcanoes and plagues all of which have had countless impacts on people’s social, political, economic, cultural and literary life. The great number of natural disasters that struck the Mamluk state in its first era, the diversity of literary arts around back at that time and the absence of a comprehensive, independent study were the main reasons for choosing this subject. The study used the inductive, descriptive, analytical and aesthetic approach, and relied on history and its events in analyzing poetry and linking it with the events of the disaster and its results. This method helped comprehend some of the literary texts. The study consisted of the following: The first chapter: Included a discussion of the social, economic, political and cultural impacts of natural disasters, both from the positive and negative perspectives. The second chapter: Addressed the objective study of the natural disasters literature. The third chapter: Studied the artistic characteristics of the natural disasters literature in terms of the structure of the literary text, language, methods, al-badi’, and the artistic image. The conclusion: Included a summary of the main results of this study.
