Social Criticism in Lozomiyyat Abul Ala' Al-Ma'arri

This research discusses the social criticism in Lozomiyyat Abul Alai AI-Ma'arri, it aims at knowing the problems and motivations of that criticism. Depending on his poetic texts, stanzas, and verses, and from the certified literary & historical references and resources. The research discussed those texts by analyses, auditing, and by specifying subjects connected to social criticism. In discussing the poetic forms, the research relied upon specifying the issues in which AI-Ma'ari was interested in his Lozomiyyat, and it shows each issue separately and supports it in the proper way. Throughout studying those forms, it was possible to get a full idea about Lozomiyyat Abul Alai AI-Ma'arri, and to reveal the majority of the subjects with which he dealt, community, economy, life, death, fate, time, politics, and religion are all components of his huge directory “Lozomiyyat", So his Lozomiyyat came in a distinguished manner. AI-Ma’arri and thought about to a degree that he discussed those issues by a philosophy mixed with guides and advice, so his speculations were deep un proceeded, through which he was worthy to gain the nickname of the philosopher poet because he said a good, philosophic, and well organized poetry that lead him to know the origins and the resources that contributed in developing his philosophy, and contributed in initializing his talent of criticism, denying his illness and showing the importance of sight because - from his point of view - the basis in self realization, and the assurance on highlighting the distinguished and innovative personality. There is sorrow and pain impressions in his Lozomiyyat, speculation and thinking about this life and about people, forming a new vision to reveal the community defects, and criticizing it in order to reach a more idealistic community. Al-Ma'arri was a good, honest researcher who researched well the kings and princes' affairs, and who followed them in his era, and he had known dangerous information about them. he saw them fighting for authority in order to achieve their own aims and desires , and he discussed the picture of those who prohibited working for winning bread and permitted waiting and depending on others for living costs without exerting an effort, because Al-Ma'arri thought that working and. having a vocation is closer to faithfulness than waiting and depending on others, he developed a new vision through showing some religious types who had mistaken in the right of religion and had gone beyond the name of religion to realize their bad desires and their own aims. At last the research followed the integral protocol in listing and analyzing, and there are many researches from different resources and references, and from literary philosophic, historical, and scientific books that served in seeking knowledge , under supervision of Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Al-Khawajah to whom the researcher is indebted in directing this research, and expanding its horizons, the researcher hopes that the result of this effort will be acceptable.
