Abstract:
This thesis entitled Sentences of Request in The Poetry of Di'bil Al-khuzai: A Grammatical and Semantic Study" studies the poems of an Abbasi poet. On one hand, it shows the meaning of the sentences of request in Arabic language and their patterns used in language by analyzing each type of request sentences grammatically in addition to stating the opinions of old and modern scientists on controversial syntax matters. The study applies the sentences of request to the poetry of Di'bil Al-khuzai showing the various patterns used in the poems by taking each poetic purpose separately, studying the patterns of request sentences in it then analyzing it semantically according to its syntax and meaning within the context. Following this grammatical and semantic study and its application on the poetry of Di'bil a statistical tabulated study is carried out. Each table is followed by semantic study to clarify the significance of percentages for using the various patterns of request sentences in the poems.
The outcome of the study is that the poet used different patterns of request in different ways and percentages. He also allowed the request sentences to shift sometimes from the true sense of the sentence to other senses to suit the used purpose of poetry. The grammatical structures also shifted for the same purpose while the semantic study lead to the understanding of the poets mentality and state of mood through linking the grammatical and semantic study with the statistical aspect.
