Abstract:
This study aimed at identifying the degree of self- efficacy of the principals of governmental academic secondary schools in Palestine's northern governorates (Nablus, Tulkarm, Salfeet, Qalqeeliah, and Jeneen) from the point of view of principals and teachers, and to discover an effect of each of the variables of (job, sex, academic qualification and years of experience) on a degree of the self- efficacy of principals. The sample was formed from principals and teachers who responded the questionnaire, those were (55) principals and (224) teachers. They were chosen as a random stratified sample, a percentage (400/0)of all society of principals in (2001-2002) and a percentage (10%) of all society of teachers. To accomplish the aims of this study, a questionnaire was designed from (66) items which contributed on three main domains which measured according to the five likert scale to identify the degree of self-efficacy for principals. In order to answer the first question, means and percentages were calculated for each item, domain, and the total degree of all the questionnaire. Independent T- test, One - Way ANOYA, and Scheffe-post - hoc test were used to investigate the hypotheses of this study.
The study presented these following findings:
1- The degree of self - efficacy for principals on whole questionnaire was very high, it has got (82.80/0). It was (11) items only which have got high degrees, but (55) items have got very high degrees.
2- The domains of study were arranged as a degree of sel f - efficacy for principals orderly from high degrees: First: the personal domain which has got mean (4.16), and (83.2%). Second: the social domain which has got mean (4.13) and (82.6%). Third: the professional domain which has got mean (4.11) and (82.20/0).
3- There was no significant difference at (0.05) level due to variables of job, sex, academic.
4- There was significant difference at (0.05)level due to the personal domain infavour of less than B.A group. In the light of this study, the researcher stated a group of recommendations in order to increase self-efficacy of the principals of governmental secondary schools in Palestine.
