Abstract:
This study aims to map out the future of the Palestinian youth based on the current situations they live and the major challenge they face. This will be conducted through assessing the status quo of the youths and raising the awareness of the youths and involve them in the development process in Palestine; also, presenting the components of the development experience of Sharek Youth Forum, the social consequences on the ground, and the sustainable mechanisms and future drive of such experience. The study seeks to answer the following questions: What is the experience of Sharek Youth Forum in development planning of the youths sector and what are the mechanisms and solutions to stimulate the role of the Palestinian youths and their participation in facing the development challenges in Palestine? The study also seeks to achieve a number of objectives; most importantly, to present and to assess the situations of the youth associations, especially Sharek Youth Forum, for potential involvement of such associations in the making of development plans. Moreover, the study diagnoses and analyzes the objective reasons that prevent the youths associations from taking effective part in development planning. The study also sheds light on the social, economic, and political problems of the Palestinian youth who constitute large part of the Palestinian society. The study also aims to stimulate the role of the youths associations in the development process through explaining the significance of the involvement of the youths associations in development planning. Finally, the study analyzes the findings and produces recommendations and suggestions that will contribute to empowering strengths and deal with weaknesses. The study is divided into six main chapters. Chapter one discusses the importance ,content ,and the methodology of the study . Chapter Two dwells on the reality and problems of Arab youths. Chapter Three discusses the historic phases the Palestinian youths have gone through, establishment of youths associations, and the problems the youth sector suffers. Chapter Four presents the experience of Sharek Youth Forum and its development programs. Chapter Five analyzes and assesses the Sharek Youth Forum experience and its role in the planning process and analyzes the field findings. Chapter Six focuses on the most significant findings and recommendations, which may increase the effectiveness of the Palestinian youths associations in development planning. The study concludes with diagnosing the perspective of the Palestinian youths concerning the risk factors that affect their lives and needs. The research methodology of focus groups discussions provides information about the youths and allows the youths to diagnose their own problems and propose solutions for such problems. The study shows that the youths issues must be examined in full rather than in part. The youths are aware of such issues, which affect their entire life aspects. Moreover, the youths as well as the Palestinian people-live in unstable conditions. The youths feeling of deprivation stems from absence of basic rights of security, movement, access to information and services, and other issues. The findings of the study show the wide negligence of the youths issues in Palestine through lack of direct legislation s dealing with and regulate the youths and their role in the society. The study shows that the youth lack information, services, and they even lack the acknowledgement of their needs, which requires developing guided youth policy that evolves from relief services to building and development. This would facilitate arriving to better understanding of the variety in youths needs in all walks of life.
