Abstract:
This research addresses and analyzes the annexation of some vocabulary to the dual “Muthanna” in Lisan Al Arab in the form of a semantic study. The study includes the calculation of the number of words that are annexed to the dual, their classification in terms of their semantic fields, their definition, the and reason for their designation. The researcher provides a number of evidences from the religious and literary heritage and explains the reasons for the annexation of such words to the dual. Additionally, he explains a number of linguistic and syntactic phenomena that are related to the main subject using the inductive, statistical and analytical approach. The study has been divided into a preface, an introduction, two sections with their respective chapters, and a conclusion. In the preface, the researcher presented a general study of the dualism (Tathniya) in Arabic in terms of its definition both in language and in dictionary, and its manifestation as a characteristic of this language. He also distinguished the types of the dual by mentioning the requirements of the name that is going to be a dual. He also talked about the types of the real dual and explained the dual annexed words in terms of their definition, sources, types, parts, and the opinion of researchers regarding this matter. The first section of the study consisted of a dictionary of all the dual-annexed words that occurred in Lisan Al Arab arranged in seven chapters according to their semantic fields and alphabetically. The researcher also explained their meanings, the reasons for their designations and presented a number of documented religious and literary (prose and poetry) evidences from their original sources. In the second section, the researcher addressed the reasons for annexing these words to the real dual. In the first chapter, he talked about the definition of giving priority (Taghlib) in language and dictionary. The annexed words by Taghlib have been arranged according to their causes both Shuhra and Tathkir, Sharaf Al Sin, the strength of the word that has been given priority in terms of its meaning and its syntactic lightness. In the second chapter, the researcher talked about nicknaming in Arabic (Talqib) in language and dictionary, and the dual-annexed words according to Talqib have been arranged according to their causes including the characteristics that people like or dislike. In the third chapter, the researcher talked about a number of linguistic phenomenon including the Homonymy and Synonymy by mentioning the factors that led to the annexation of both to the dual. In this chapter too, the researcher included a number of syntactic phenomenon that are related to the subject of this study such as: Tawshee’ and Tibaq through presenting the opinions of the ancient scholars and building the new opinions on them both in terms of approval or refusal. The study has been concluded with the most important results in addition to a summary of the new ideas that the researcher has added to the previous studies.
