Abstract:
This study addresses the Israeli position toward the revolutionary transformation in Egypt which was described as confused and worried due to the Egyptian revolution that overthrew Mubarak’s regime. This regime has been described by the Israelis as being Israeli’s most important treasure in the Middle East, and one of its best strategic friends and allies in the region.
The study explained the extent of fear that Israel has regarding the future of Camp David Agreement in light of the emergence of a new Egyptian regime that is led by Islamists that can get rid of the dependence of Arabs on the United States of America. This dependence has ensured the smoothness of the relationships with Israel over the last three decades because of the conditional American aids. Ultimately, this change in Egypt will shape the kind of relationship with Israel, or even end it for good.
The problem of the study was centered on the nature of the Israeli position toward the Egyptian revolution; this position has been addressed carefully and accurately. The study questioned the possibility that the success of the Egyptian revolution will play a role in changing the principles of the relationships and the rules of the political game toward the Palestinian cause and the relationships with Israel and the West.
The study hypothesized that the revolutionary change in Egypt might lead to changes that are in favor of the Palestinian cause and on the expense of Israel’s and the West’s dominion over the Arab and Islamic region. Moreover, the rise of the Islamic movements to power in Egypt will have negative effects on the peace agreement between Egypt and Israel, while positively on the relationships with the Palestinian side, especially Hamas.
The researcher relied on the Analytical, Historical Approach in presenting a historical description of the Israeli vision of the Egyptian situation before January 25th. Moreover, the researcher adopted the Descriptive Approach to describe the Israeli position toward the Egyptian revolution, as well as the Israeli role in attempting to suppress the revolution and direct it toward the Israeli interests. Finally, the researcher used the Analytical Approach which enabled her to analyze and criticize the related data and information.
In the first chapter, the study addressed the theoretical, conceptual framework in which the researcher formulated an idiomatic definition of the revolutionary transformation concept which is a sudden and accelerated move from one state to another different one whose aim is to flip and change the current political, social and economic situation and replace it with another one that is led by a revolutionary system that came as a result of the revolution which grants the emerging institutions an original revolutionary legitimacy that has been guaranteed by that move.
The researcher has also mentioned during this part of the study the political, economic, social, psychological and external causes, factors and backgrounds of the Egyptian revolution. This part has also presented the characteristics and features that the Arab Spring revolutions had in general and the Egyptian revolution in particular. The researcher included the formal, party and media positions in Egypt regarding the revolution.
In the third chapter the researcher talked about the possibility that the Israeli role in serving the western interests in the region could be affected due to the revolutionary shift in Egypt and other Arab countries.
Furthermore, the researcher presented a detailed explanation of the Israeli vision of the repercussions of the establishment of a new Egyptian regime on the Arab-Israeli conflict, especially with respect to the Palestinian cause, the reconciliation and settlement processes. She also addresses the possibilities of forming a new Middle Eastern Axis that qualifies Egypt to reclaim its effective regional role which it lost as a result of its agreement with Israel.
The study also anticipated the future of the relationships between Egypt and Israel and predicted the prospects of the settlement process in light of the revolutionary transformation in Egypt on the economic, political and security levels.
The study concluded that the Egyptian-Israeli relationships will be negatively affected, especially in case the Egyptian-American relationships are also affected, leading Egypt to get rid of its dependence on the United States and its ability to achieve its possible dream which is to have an independent decision and free will.
