To achieve the study objectives, the study endeavored the following questions: - To What extent biology teachers, in primary and secondary schools, are using educational competencies in north Palestine ?
Are there statistically significant difference in the degree of using educational competencies which may be attributed to sex variable ?
Are there statistically significant difference in the degree of using educational competencies which may be attributed to experience variable (short or long). Are there statistically significant difference in the degree of using educational competencies which may be attributed to place of teaching (village, town)? Are there statistically significant difference in the degree of using educational competencies which may be attributed to academic qualification (diploma, B.A., Higher diploma, MA)? Are there statistically significant difference in the degree of using educational competencies , among the various educational resources domain ? The sample of the study consisted of 170 teachers of both sexes. The subjects of the study were a stratified randomly chosen sample.
The questionnaire was developed to measure the extent of using educational competencies. The questionnaire had 54 items distributed among nine domains: planning (6 items); instructional material, methods and activities (6 items); classroom questions (6 items); instructional aids (6 items); lab using (6 items); teacher's personality and his professional attitudes (6 items). The data were statistically analyzed by using arithmetic averages and percentages, T-Test, Tuke Test, ANOVA, Wilks Lambda test, and MANOVA.
Results of the study showed a high degree of using educational competencies on all domains combined. The average was 79.4%. It was also found that there were statistically significant differences at α = 0.05 which may be attributed to sex variable in favor of women teachers, and to academic qualification variable in favor of those holding a higher diploma.
The study recommend more involvement of biology teachers in training courses in the area of using educational competencies.
