Abstract:
This study under takes to explore the reflections of jail ordeal in the verse of tow figures of Arab poetry - Abu Firas Al-hamdani and Al-Mu’tamid Bin Abbad. It has been initiated with ahistorical introduction through which the lineage of each of tow poets was followed up. Abu Firas Al-Hamdani belongs to the Arab tribe of Taglib, whereas Al-Mu’tamid belongs to the Arab tribe of “Lalchm”. Both of their families emerged as aresult of certain political and social situation. The Hamdani family emerged during the stage of Abbaside state weakness, while the Abbad family emerged during the era of effacement of the Caliphate in Al-Andalus. Besides the influence of jail in their verse, we find that jail has clearly affected the two poets. Therefore, we find topics that suit the ordeal, topics which express the severe suffering, on one hand, and those which show the influence of jail which marked each of them concerning the topics as well as the artistic level on the other. Since the detention experience of each of the two poets was different from that of the other, the reflections of jail were different accordingly.
