Evaluation of the Reality of the Main Commercial Areas in Nablus City and Planning them Using Geographical Information Systems (GIS)

This study shows the commercial situations concerning the main districts in Nablus using GIS techniques "GIS"; these districts suffers from the poor organizing and planning. The reason behind the importance of this study is that it is considered as one of the first studies which focus on the planning and organizing in the city. The study seeks to achieve a set of goals, one of which is to point out to the spatial distribution for commercial institutions, the factors of these distributions in addition to identifying of the problems associated with the distribution and the expansion of commercial use in the city to be able to develop solutions to help plan and organize the commercial /bushiness districts in the city. The study depended on the use of the historical method, descriptive method, analytical approach, quantitative approach and Alcartojrave method through the use of several techniques, the most important of which is the appropriate spatial style (Model Builder) and qualitative methodology (SWOT) to achieve the aforesaid objectives of the study. One of the most important findings of the study of the commercial district area of 3990 acres which accounted for 13.8% of the total Nablus area which is high compared with the area of commercial space in the traditional amounting to 10% of cities, reaching a per capita about (5.4 m2 / capita) it is more than what was planned by the Nablus Municipality amounting to (4.4 m2 / capita), and it appeared that the distribution of commercial use in the eastern region pattern is a random pattern, while in the Central Business district (CBD) is a similar pattern, the pattern in the western area is a scattered one .The study showed that there are several problems in the region; the most important problem is the inconsistency in the presence of types of violation in commercial institution. To solve this problem, it is proposed to allocate an integrated commercial street of a particular commercial activity. Through the results of the study, the study recommends Nablus Municipality and the Ministry of Local Government and the Center for Urban Planning to plan and organize the commercial/business district of the city by taking into consideration the future solutions and proposals that have been developed to reach the appropriate decisions concerning the region.
