Abstract:
The aim of the study was to see the effects of a suggested training programme on some physical and skills variables in gymnastics for the students of the physical education department in the University of Khadoori. To achieve this goal the study was applied on a sample of (36) PE students who are currently taking "gymnastics 101" course, and then they were distributed randomly into a control group and an experimental group, the experimental group was subject to the researcher suggested training programme where as the control group was subject to the traditional or regular training programme. The programme went on for eight weeks, 3 training units weekly, and the researcher used the experimental approach because it is more appropriate for the nature of the study. Before and after the training programme a physical variables tests were executed including: (ability test for legs, ability test for arms, power test for legs, power test for arms, flexibility test for the trunk and the flexibility of the shoulders, fitness test). Skills variables including: (floor exercises test, parallel bars test, the vault test, the pommel horse test). The researcher used the SPSS software to analyze the results. After making the appropriate statistical treatments the study has shown that the suggested training programme has affected all the variables under study, and with a significance level between the pre and post evolutions and in favor of the post evaluation. The percentages of change were as follows: the ability of the legs (15.23%), the ability of the arms (18.42%), the power of the legs (31.42%), the power of the arms (37.18%), the flexibility of the trunk (19.50%), the flexibility of the shoulders (20.37%), the fitness (-8.65%), the floor exercises test (239.33%), the parallel bar test (302.35%), the vault test (314.66%), and finally the pommel horse test (249.71%). The study has also shown that the traditional or regular training programme has affected all the variables under study, with a significance level between the pre and post evaluations and in favor of the post evaluation, the percentages of change were as follows: the ability of the legs (6.85%), the ability of the arms (6.91%), the power of the legs (11.69%), the power of the arms (14.89%), the flexibility of the trunk (6.45%), the flexibility of the shoulders (7.38%), the fitness test (-2.99%), the floor exercises test (116.58), parallel bars test (123.87%), the vault test (153.90%), the pommel horse test (101.14%). The study has finally shown that there are some differences with significance levels in all the variables in the study between the control group and the experimental group and in favor of the experimental group. The researcher listed many recommendations including: using the suggested training programme to enhance the physical and skills variables of the gymnastics students.
