Abstract:
This study aimed to identify the effect of using active class strategies for the Fifth grade students' achievement levels of the Elementary Schools in math and their attitudes toward its learning in Nablus Governorate. The research question of the study is: What is the effect of using active class strategies for the Fifth grade students' achievement levels in math and their attitudes toward learning it? In order to achieve the aims of the study; the researcher used the experimental method in its qhasi experimental way. The sample of the study consisted of (72) male students from the fifth grade students at (the Male Askar Community School)- which is affiliated to the UNRWAagency in Nablus district - for the scholastic year 2015/2016، then the sample was divided into two groups: the experimental group which was taught by activeclass and consisted of (36) students and controll group which was taught by the traditional way of teaching and consisted of (36) students. The following instruments were prepared and used: 1- An achievement post-test for the decimals unit which was judged by two notable judges. The reliability of the test was calculated by cron bach Alfa and it was (0.836) which was acceptable. 2- A questionnaire of attitudes towards learnings maths which consisted of (30) items. The reliability of the instrument was calculated. accordingly،reliability coefficient was (0.847) which was acceptable for the purpose of the study. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS program aiming to calculate the means and the standard deviations to come up with a clear description of the students’ achievement in the post test for the experimental and the controll groups and the findings of the attitudes towards learning mathematics questionnaire. One-way ANCOVA was used to determine the difference in the mean scores of the achievement and the attitudes of both the experimental and the control groups. Also Pearson coorlation coefficient was used to determine the relationship between the academic achievement and the attitudes towards math learning. The statistical analyses came up with the following results:  There is a significant difference at (α≤0.05) in the mean scores of the students' achievement in the experimental group and those of the controll group regarding the way of teaching (traditional or teaching by using active class) in the total value of the post-test in favor of the experimental group.  There is a significant difference at (α≤0.05) in the mean scores of the students' attitudes towards learning math in the experimental group and those of the controll group regarding the way of teaching (traditional or active classroom) in favor of the experimental group which was taught by active classroom.  There is a significant relationship between the achievement and the attitudes of fifth grade students towards learning math in the experimental group. Based on these results، the researcher recommended that the active classroom should be used in presenting and teaching the satiric material since it enhances and improves the achievement and the attitudes towards learning math. The researcher also recommended that the Ministry of Education should adopt teaching by active classroom learning to enrich the teaching environment and provide the student with a variety of learning skills.
