Abstract: 
This study examined the Abbasid caliphate, in the Abbasid poetry In the second and the third centuries (Hijrah). To this end, the researcher the Abbasid state. The researcher, after analysis, noticed that these poets had exaggerated their praise of the caliph and bestowed him with a halo of holiness, However, the Shiite poets, portrayal of the caliph was influenced by their attitude towards the Abbasid caliphate. And due to the diversity of the Shitte sects, their positions. Also varied. Some of them supported others opposed it and still others remained neutral. As for the poets of asceticism, these had withdrawn themselves for the pleasures of worldly things and devoted their life, to the Other Day The image of the caliphate in their poetry was influenced by their attitude toward this world and their asceticism in it. The poets of buffoonery and atheism expressed their support for the sake of gaining and covering of their crossing of the red lines. The study also dwelt on the factors which had influenced the image of the caliph. It specifically examined the religious and ideological factors and their impact on the concept of this image. This image crossed between the Sunnis and the Shiites and even among the Shiites themselves. Other parties, however,had other attitudes. In addition to the religious and ideological factors, the study tackled the political factors, and the subsequent political parties and trends, to illustrate the image. The study also examined the impact of the social and ethnic factors and the sequent ethnic mixture and diversity of classes and the effect of all that on the caliphate. It was found, thorough these factors combined, that the image had developed according to the effect of these factors in the psyches of these poets. The study ended with the study of the concept of artistic image, the style, the language and the ideas as exemplified in the poetry of these poets.
