For the purpose of the study, the researcher developed a questionnaire which includes eight roles of English language teacher. eighty three students from the Teaching Methods Department, (majoring in methods of teaching English) filled out the questionnaire. The results indicated that the students perceived the role of the teacher as an investigator as the most important role while the role of the teacher as a controller the least important one. Based on the findings the researcher recommends other studies to be conducted: such as investigating more potential roles of English language teachers. Further studies are also recommended to investigate the teachers’ perceptions towards their different roles. Finally, there is a need for a comparative study to show the similarities and differences between students’ and teachers’ perceptions towards the different roles of English teachers.
