Abdul Rahman Bin Mohammad Bin Abdul Rahman Al-Omari Al’Olaimy Al-Hanabli, belongs to Omar Ibn Al-Khattab, was born in Jerusalem in (860 H/1455 A.D). and got his education there, and he traveled between Egypt and Syria to complete his sciences. After his return to Palestine, he occupied the position of magistrate Judges in each of Ramle, Hebron, Jerusalem and Nablus in the confines of the Mamluk Empire until his death in (927H/1520A.D). Studied by many scholars, including: Sheikh Taqi Al-Din Abdullah Al- Qarqashandi (died 867 H / 1462A.D), and Sheikh Kamal Al-Din Al-Maqdisi Al- Shafi'i (died 906 H / 1501A.D), and Badr Al- Din Mohammad Al- Sa'di Al- Masri (died 880 H / 147A.D) and others. His method was marked by the narrative method, gathering the material for his book from those who were before him in this field. He took from the book " Manual in Human News " to Abu Fida' (died 732H / 1331A.D), and quoted from the book " Regular in the news of kings and Nations " to Ibn Al-Jawzi (died 597 H / 1201A.D). He also took from the book " Full of history " to Ibn Al-Atheer (died 630 H / 1332A.D) and others. He followed the short cut way, this is indicated in the introduction to his book. Al'ulaimy quoted more than ninety Quranic verse, and seventy six Hadiths and a hundred and fifteen verses of poetry in forty- three pieces of poetry, all of which he used to serve the aims of his book in the historical periods it covered. The importance of the book comes from including a large historical and geographical material covering along period of time in a concise and brief manner, extending from the creation of Adam, peace be upon him and the messengers and prophets and many nations after him until the year (896 H / 1490A.D), and here the skill of the author is shown to bring the perfection. The motive behind the authorship of this book was the desire to provide historical material that covers the largest period of time for Arab and Muslim countries for the importance of the region since ancient times, being the meeting point of monotheistic religions, and the greed of the invaders throughout history. The book dealt with nine subjects, the first was since the beginning of creation, and creation of Adam, peace be upon him and the prophets after him, and the successive nations and tribes in the pre-Islamic period. In part two, it dealt with the period of Islam since the birth of the prophet peace be upon him and his call in the Arabian peninsula and beyond, his conquests and Saraya his companions until he died in (11 H / 632 A.D) and mentioning his qualities and the talk about the Rashidiya caliphate – until the year (40 H – 660A .D). The third lists the events of the Umayyad state since its foundation in Damascus in (40 H / 660 A.D) at the hands of Muawiya bin Abi Sufyan till its fall in (132 H / 749 A.D). The fourth was devoted to the Abbasid state in Baghdad, from the beginning of the Caliphs to the end of the state at the hands of the Tatars in (656 H / 1258 A.D). The fifth subject talked about the events of the Fatimid state in Egypt in ( 296 H / 908 A.D), until the end of the state at the hands of Saladin in ( 567 H / 1171 A.D). Section six narrated the revival of the Abbasid state in Egypt in (659 H / 1260 A.D), that was in the state of king Thaher Baybars to the end of the state in (884 H / 1479 A.D). The seventh part handled the news of the Zangid kings and Sultans since the year (543 H / 1136 A.D) and their wars with the Crusaders, their state continued until (572 H / 1176 A.D). Section eight mentioned events of Sultans Bani Ayoub from the beginning of the establishment of their country in (567 H / 1171 A.D) in Egypt and Syria until (648 H / 1250 A.D) The ninth dealt with the succession of the Mamluks and Jerka'seyah to the throne in (648 H / 1250 A.D) until (896 H / 1490 A.D). Mujeer Al-Din Al-Hanbali wanted through the above to draw the attention of the Arabs and Muslims and the world to the importance of Arab and Islamic region extended from Hijaz and Iraq to Syria and Egypt and take a lesson from the history of the former nations and states so he would have made a historical and geographical encyclopedia including aspects of political, economic, social, civilized, cultural and intellectual life.
