Abstract:

Menopause is a universal and irreversible part of the overall aging process involving a woman's reproductive system, after which she no longer menstruates. Climacteric is the general term for the time from the period of this transition to the early postmenopausal phase of a woman's reproductive life cycle.
As women age, they may experience menopausal symptoms that interfere with their physical, emotional, sexual and cognitive functions, which can have a negative impact on their sense of well-being and quality of life.
Research has shown that Primary Care Providers lack complete knowledge and confidence in management of menopause ,more over statistics show that the three main causes of mortality and disability in developed countries for post-menopausal women are cardiovascular disease (CVD), cancer and osteoporosis-associated fractures. There are agreed recommendations to include some preventive measures for these three disorders in clinical practice for health professionals, at least at the minimal level.
Health care professionals should bear in mind that many women may be reluctant to raise questions about some disorders spontaneously. Physicians should therefore search for patients with risk factors for these diseases. Prevention and treatment to avoid medical accidents will improve the quantity and quality of life.
Evidence based guidelines for prevention and the controversies that have been evolving will be discussed in this presentation.
