Abstract:
This thesis has a special importance according to the topic and the style of portraying. Its topic is about the Art of letter writing - a narrative literary art which hasn't been explored yet - of two noticeable artists, Abed — El Hameed Alkatib and Ibn - Al - A'meed whose presence is clear in this field. Each one has his own art with its own characteristics. I haven't found any research comprising the two dimensions in this field, So I decided to tackle this issue. In this issue, Al - Thaa'libi said: " letter writing began with Ibn - Al -A'meed and ended by Ibn - Al -A'meed. " Therefore, I decided to point out the characteristics of this art for each one of them, and show the way they followed to achieve this marvelous prestige in this art including similarities, differences and other things. These issues are tackled in this thesis in four chapters, chapter one comprises the meaning of this art " Letter writing " linguistically, culturally and the stages up to reign of Ibn - Al - A'meed, chapter two about Abed - El - Hameed Al - kattib, life, character patterns and his culture, and the same is done in chapter three about Ibn -El - A'meed, in chapter four, I talked about similarities and differences of the two artists in the field of letter writing. In the Fourth chapter 1 concluded the following: * This art has its Arabic origin and Abed - El - Hameed Alkatib put its rules and laws, which weren't done by any one before. - Despite the Persian roots of these two writers. They acquired the Arabic Language, its vocabulary, styles and figurative side as though there origin hadn't affected them. - These two artists were the pioneers in this art, Abed - El- Hameed pointed out , parallel, varying the introduction, the conclusion and greetings. On the contrary, Ibn -Al - A'meed concentrated on rhyme and figurative language with difference in concentration. - Researchers, through different ages, considered that Abed - El - Hameed started the art of letter writing because he managed to formulate its content and form according to specific pattern. They also considered that Ibn -El - A'meed ended this art through applying certain style including rhyme and figurative language, where he used them in an artistic way. - Through their writing, they confined it to be Islamic, literary and ethical away from bad language, disgraceful meanings and worn ideas. - Their linguistic manuscripts reflect similarities of both of them concerning writing. They use easy language but not slang or strange. Their expressions are chosen to fit the meaning. From this study. It has become clear that this art is a splendid one the narration of the Arabic literature which affected the literary appreciation and the highness of thought. I hope that this study will help researchers in the narrative literature and enrich the Arabic library. I, also, look forward to having other studies in this field for other artists who are very many. They have many creative and immortal literary works.
